Stanislaw Lem

Dialogs

from the 1st German edition

translated by F.P.

In this work, which is on the same lines as his "Summa Technologiae" (1976) and "Fantastics and Futurology" (1977), Stanislaw Lem newly creates the Socratic dialogs, in a time in which the traditional topics of philosophy, theology, and social theory undergo changes in their presentation, mainly under the influence of cybernetics. These dialogs seek to explore and to evaluate the future consequences which follow from the further improvement of computer building - from a possible eternal existence of the individual to the construction of new social systems.
